Hot & Cold outcomes
"Hot" = an outcome appearing above its recent average; "cold" = below. Descriptive statistics, NOT a prediction: beware the gambler's fallacy.
Also known as: hot numbers, cold numbers
Definition
An outcome is hot when, over a recent window, it appeared more often than its expected frequency, and cold when less. It is a simple comparison of observed versus expected frequency in the distribution.
It is crucial to understand what it is not: in a fair game every round is independent, so "hot" or "cold" say nothing about the next outcome. Believing otherwise is the gambler's fallacy. We publish this data as a transparent historical snapshot, not as a prediction system.
